About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure however, they bounce back with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour made them a household brand all over the world.
After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and record a new album with the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
