In 1985, singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group The band held auditions for a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their album Fahrenheit in 1986.
Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. The group went through old recordings and tapes to create the unique record. The album was a hit by fans and the band embarked on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer during the tour for the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included recordings from the tour and also an interview with the group.
